Boats and Brats a Great Success
|
KSPS, in a joint venture with the
South Bend Sail & Power Squadron
(SBSPS), hosted a Boats and Brats
event in South Haven at the Black
River Marina (Oak St.) on Saturday
25 July from 10 to 3.
In 2010, it will be Saturday 12 June.
Over 50 people dined on brats,
sauerkraut and other traditional
picnic goodies.
The focus of the day was Vessel
Safety Checks for members and the
boating public. VSCs were free and
provided owners with information on
equipment and procedures that will
make them, their families and
friends safer whether docked or
out-on-the-water.
Results are reported to the owner,
not to the Sheriff or Coast Guard.
It is up to the owner to take action to
make their boat safer. Those who
passed the inspection were given a
2009 VSC decal.
Preparing for Boat Inspections
|
A total of 22 boats were inspected
on Saturday. Only two boats did not
pass inspection.
One boat owner fixed his port side
light and was rechecked and
approved later in the day.
The other boat did not have the
proper fire extinguisher and will be
re-inspected once the problem has
been resolved.
Another 17 boats were inspected in
the Saugatuck area by Bob Boyce
during the summer.
